It's a Rs 5,000 crore boost for Brand Bengaluru: Siddaramaiah
Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaih may have taken the first concrete step towards putting Bengaluru city back on track on Saturday.
At the first meeting of the 'Vision Group' (Industries) he promised to add lost sheen to "Brand Bengaluru" and make available Rs 5,000 crore from the Chief Minister's special package by creating various infrastructure facilities in a city that has become a byword for traffic gridlock, indifferent power supply and rank neglect of basic services like regular garbage clearance and efficient waste disposal.
Admitting that “Bengaluru is facing infrastructure problems and it is really a challenge to bridge the gap between industry growth and the quality infrastructure in the city," the Chief Minister, under attack for neglecting the fastest growing metros in the country, defended his track record by saying that since 2013-14, his government had provided Rs 5,606 crore to the civic body, the BBMP to upgrade and improve infrastructure.
The 'Vision Group' meeting was attended by Industries Minister R V Deshpande, IT Minister Priyank Kharge, Biocon Chief Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, industry leaders and senior government officials.
