Mishap at Greenko's renewable energy project claims two lives
TIRUPATI: Two workers from Jharkhand lost their lives in an accident inside a tunnel at Greenko's renewable energy project site in Nandyal district on Friday. The mishap occurred when mud blocks collapsed on the workers due to inclement weather conditions.
According to the reports reaching here, the deceased was identified as Sonu Kumar (20) and Munnar Singh Bhokta (35), both hailing from Chatra district in Jharkhand. The news of these workers' deaths enraged their fellow co-workers, leading them to damage some vehicles belonging to the Greenko group at the site. The co-workers blamed the inclement weather and the management for the incident.
According to Nandyal SP K. Raghuveer Reddy, a group of seven workers had entered the tunnel at the Greenko project site near Pinna Puram village in Pangam mandal at approximately 9 am on Friday. As a result of the adverse weather conditions, the accident occurred, claiming the lives of two workers. The police have registered a case under section 174 of the IPC and further investigation is on.
Meanwhile, the district administration has initiated an inquiry into the matter. CPI Nandyal district secretary Ranga Naidu who visited the accident site accused the Greenko management of compelling laborers to work despite the adverse weather conditions over the past week.
He demanded a thorough investigation into the management's alleged negligence and called for appropriate action against it. He urged the authorities to provide a compensation of Rs 1 crore to each of the victim's families.
