Priyanka Gandhi’s detention: Congressmen protests in Tiruchy, Thanjai
TIRUCHY | THANJAVUR: Congressmen led by the party’s Tiruchy urban district president Jawahar staged a demonstration in front of Arunachala Mandram, the party’s district headquarters here on Saturday, in protest against the Uttar Pradesh police who detained the AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, on her way to Sopnbhadra in U.P. where ten people were gunned down recently, to meet the victims family on Friday.
Mr. Jawahar told media persons the U. P. police action against Ms. Priyanka was highly condemnable and termed it as another attempt to murder democracy.
The demonstrators raised anti-BJP slogans and condemned the police action against Ms. Priyanka.
Among others party’s Treasurer Raja Nazeer, vice-president Santhana Krishnan, and former mayor of the Tiruchirappalli city corporation Ms. Sujatha spoke.
In Thanjavur, Congress members staged a demonstration condemning detention of Priyanka Gandhi, party general secretary, by Uttar Pradesh police here on Saturday. P.G. Rajendran, president, Thanjavur city corporation district unit led the agitation at railway station.
