IOC’s new LPG bottling plant at Tirunelveli soon: Official

The new bottling plant at Tirunelveli is to be commissioned shortly.

TIRUCHY: The public sector Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has 1.60 Crore LPG domestic customers with the share of 57.7 per cent market share for its Indane LPG, across the state of Tamil Nadu and supplies to customers are made through a network of 900 distributors, said R. Chidambaram IOC’s general manager Corporate Communications Southern Region.

He told newsmen here on Saturday, on the sidelines of the media people visit the Indane LPG bottling plant at suburb Inaamkulathur, that the Indane distributors are supplied cylinders from Indian Oil's LPG Bottling Plants from Ennore (Chennai), Chengalpet, Salem, Erode, Mayiladuthurai, Mannargudi, Trichy, Coimbatore, Madurai, Ilayangudi, and Puducherry.

Referring to Indian Oil's Tiruchy Indane LPG bottling plant, he said it is located over an area of 60 acres and was commissioned in 1996. The plant has a total storage capacity of 1,000 tonnes stored in three mounded bullets with a combined capacity of 400 MT and One Horton Sphere with a storage capacity of 600 MT. Additional LPG storage facility of 900 MT is being added to the bottling plant for which regulatory clearances are awaited. This Plant fills around 34,000 LPG cylinders per day, translating to an annual bottling capacity of 120 Thousand MT, he added.

He said that the LPG bulk product input for Tiruchy plant primarily comes from the LPG import terminal of IndianOil Petronas Pvt Ltd, a Joint venture company of IndianOil and Petronas, Malaysia, located at Ennore, Chennai, with secondary backup supplies from Mangalore Refineries and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL).

Referring to the safety aspects of the plant, he said a sewage water treatment plant and an organic waste convertor has been installed in the plant to treat the wastewater and organic waste generated by it. The plant is well secured with an Access Control System with fingerprint readers and surveillance system with multiple cameras across the plant’s operational areas, he added.
