Hyderabad: Residents seek SCB enrolment dates extension
Hyderabad: Residents have asked the Secunderabad Cantonment Board to extend the last date for voter enrolment for the SCB polls to August 10. Enrolment voters for the polls to be held in January next ended on Saturday.
Mr Gaddam Shravan Kumar, convener, Progressive Telangana Foundation, who gave the representation, said, “Most people were not aware of the voter verification and enrolment process due to the lack of awareness. The SCB did not conduct any awareness camps. There were no announcements or banners.”
Residents requested the SCB to conduct a door-to-door survey and hold awareness campaigns before completing the enrolment work. So far about 4,000 new voters have enrolled, adding to the existing 1.52 lakh voters.
Asked about awareness drives, an official said the Board had put up notices and officers were available at the SCB office for queries.
They said that the enrolment drivers were always conducted between July 1 and 20. Another board official said the SCB had no staff or budget for door-to-door surveys or awareness campaigns. Officials did not rule out the possibility of extending dates.
