One person gets 3 voter ID cards in Bhupalpally

Some Opposition leaders alleged that local TRS leaders were responsible for the irregularities in the voter list.

Warangal: One person was issued three voter cards for the upcoming municipal elections in Bhupalpally. In another instance, more than 200 voters were registered under the same house number.

Several such mistakes were found in the voter list regarding caste, age, names etc and the residents are up in arms over these blunders in the list.

One Sothuku Praveen complained that he belonged to Scheduled Caste (SC) but the voter list showed him as hailing from a Backward Class (BC). “Because of the irregularities in the voter list, I am losing my opportunity to contest as a ward councilor,” Mr Praveen said.

He wanted the revenue officials, the booth level officer and the municipal commissioner to release a corrected version of the voter list at the earliest. “In case they fail to do so, we will move the High Court to cancel the elections,” he said.

Some Opposition leaders alleged that local TRS leaders were responsible for the irregularities in the voter list. They said some former councillors had joined hands with the BLOs, revenue and municipal officers to create new votes. They held them responsible for changing the caste of the voters in some areas to favour the ruling party.

A resident from Jawah-arnagar, Mr Pippala Rajender, said his caste has been wrongly entered as SC instead of BC, and his wife’s caste was mentioned as BC. His mother’s name had gone missing from the voter’s list. “The negligence of the municipal authorities caused this confusion. They must rectify the mistakes and release a fresh list,” he demanded.

There were 180 votes registered from House No. 2-64 and 215 from House No 2-94. When questioned, municipal authorities called it a technical error and said they were working on amending the list.
