Hyderabad: The debate on the no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha on Friday led to heated arguments between the TRS and TD members. TRS members strongly objected at TD MP Galla Jayadev’s remarks that the state bifurcation was done undemocratically and unscientifically.
They stormed into the podium demanding that Mr Javadev withdrew his remarks and asked Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to remove the remarks from the records, terming them as highly objectionable and humiliating to Telangana state. The situation returned to normalcy and TRS members resumed their seats only after TRS floor leader A.P. Jithender Reddy was allowed by the Speaker to lodge the party’s protest against Mr Jayadev’s remarks.
“After several students sacrificed their lives demanding statehood for Telangana, we convinced both the Congress and BJP for bifurcation. The bifurcation Act was passed in Parliament. How can bifurcation Act become undemocratic after it was passed by the Parliament,” Mr Jithender Reddy asked. He stated that the TD had given a letter to the Centre in 2009 expressing support to bifurcation. Mr Jayadev had said, “Everyone knows how the Act was passed. Parliament doors were closed, lights and cameras were switched off. Is this not undemocratic?”
There were arguments between members of the two parties when Mr Jayadev pointed out that AP was a big loser while Telangana state had gains due to the bifurcation. He cited AP losing the capital city of Hyderabad, which was developed with the collective effort and resources of all regions of undivided AP, and TS getting prominent institutions and big companies like Singareni Collieries.
Both parties were in confrontation mode again when TRS deputy floor leader B. Vinod Kumar referred to the honeymoon period between AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
