Monsoon woes: 4,000 potholes found from July 1

The orders were also issued to fill the remaining potholes as soon as possible to avoid inconvenience to the public.

Hyderabad: Four thousand and counting. That is the number of potholes that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has found from July 1.

A report of the civic body said 90 per cent of the potholes were filled by special monsoon teams, but it was noticed that standards were not being maintained.

The orders were also issued to fill the remaining potholes as soon as possible to avoid inconvenience to the public.

GHMC commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy has ordered workers to be provided training on road repair and filling of potholes.

The GHMC has temporarily appointed 384 special teams, the ‘monsoon emergency teams’ to respond during the rainy season.

The workers were taken on contract and do not have any previous experience in this type of work, which requires expertise.

Due to the rains over the past two weeks, potholes have opened up on most of the city roads.

Though maintenance is going on, it is not up to the mark. The shortfall in road maintenance was also observed by Mayor Bonthu Rammohan.
