God made me CM, he'll save me, says H D Kumaraswamy

Farm loans will be waived off in a week's time. I pray to farmers not to end their lives: CM.

Mysuru: The Gods may be smiling on him with dams in the Cauvery river basin-lifeline of districts in the Old Mysuru region- brimming, but will the divine forces make sure the power bestowed on CM H.D. Kumaraswamy remains with him? The CM who heads a coalition government with the Congress party, sounded supremely confident remarking at a programme in Mandya, “I have become CM with the blessings of God, God will safeguard the power bestowed by him.”

In the past two months since the JD(S)-Congress coalition came to power, Kumaraswamy has had a stormy ride facing resistance from the Congress over cabinet berth allocation and budget proposals including the farm loan waiver. Speaking at the thanksgiving event at the mighty KRS dam which has filled up, the CM dwelt on the coalition’s functioning and said, “We have taken off well, people need not have any doubt on whether we will complete our term. We are coordinating and functioning like a family. No one can make it unstable. It’s a government for the people. Give me a year’s time, we will solve your problems. Some doubt where I will get money to waive farm loans. If I do not fulfill your promises how can I show my face to you?”

Mr Kumaraswamy also expressed his gratitude to Mandya which sent 7 JD(S) MLAs to the Assembly saying, “Mandya has played an important role in my political career. I find it difficult to repay you for your affection. I will be coming up with five mega dairies in the state and one will be in Mandya. I will strive for the overall development of the district.”

He said, “Farm loans will be waived off in a week’s time. I pray to farmers with folded hands, please don’t end your lives. I will bring about several changes. Don’t be worried. It is my responsibility to save you.” He added, “We will offer a support price for silk cocoons if the price drops.” He announced a support price of Rs 40 for hybrid silk cocoons and Rs 50 for white silk cocoons.
