Bengaluru: The inspector of Malleshwaram police station was suspended for dereliction of duty after he failed to register a POCSO case in which an AC mechanic had attempted to sexually harass a boy.
The inspector, Venkatachalaiah, has been suspended by Additional Commissioner of Police (West), Malini Krishnamurthy.
Police said the parents of a boy had come to the station on Tuesday and filed a complaint stating that an AC mechanic who had come home to repair an AC had tried to sexually abuse their son.
However, the inspector had not registered an FIR and did not start any investigation into the case.
The parents approached senior officers and complained about this.
“Based on their complaint, the inspector was suspended on charges of dereliction of duty. This is also a warning for other officers who neglect such complaints,” the police added.
Further, based on the complaint by the parents, the accused, Syed Ali, a resident of Ramanagara, has been arrested, the police said.
