PIL seeks Supreme Court diktat to RBI on TTD's old notes

The Centre has also allowed District Co-operative Banks, post offices to deposit demonetised notes with RBI.

Hyderabad: A PIL has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking a direction to the Reserve Bank of India and the Centre for accepting the demonetised notes offe-red by pilgrims from the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams.

A journalist from Visakhapatnam moved the PIL before the apex court stating that offering made to the Lord Venkateswara by devotees in form of cash was not accepted by RBI. “Due to this, Rs 8.29 crores worth demonetised notes Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes were packed and kept in boxes with the TTD,” he claimed.

While the Centre has also allowed District Co-operative Banks, post offices to deposit demonetised notes with RBI, he contended that not treating pilgrims’ money lying with TTD at par with NRIs and district cooperative banks is discriminative.

He claimed it would mean offering to the God would not be utilised for stated purposes.
