Madurai: Lack of parental care pushes juveniles to crime
MADURAI: Lack of parental care and bad company are main reasons behind more number of adolescents taking up to crime in Madurai.
This reality was shared by juveniles themselves to DC while they participated in a ‘Skill Development and Placement Training for Children in Conflict with Law’ organised by the department of Social Defense, District Child Protection Unit at the collectorate on Thursday.
Many of these juveniles had grown up with single parents and they lack guidance in the family. In the case of Ramesh (15) from Thirumamgalaum taluk, he had developed a friendship with one Pandikumar who was 15 years elder to him. He had forced him into homosexuality. “I had to spend few months in jail because he had murdered a boy while he forced me to accept homosexuality,” said Ramesh, a class X student at the incident time.
Though he was remanded in jail, the JJB assisted him in his education when he was kept under observation.
“I have passed 10th standard,” he said with a smile on his face.
R Gayathiri Devi, Judicial Magistrate III, Principal Magistrate, JJB, Madurai, also helped him to study class 11 in a school.
