Mohammed Mahmood Ali irked by decision on Wakf Board CEO

Deputy CM asked Mr Jaleel why Prof. Abdul Shukoor was made in-charge of the Board without he being consulted.

Hyderabad: The appointment of Prof. S.A. Shukoor as the in-charge Chief Executive Officer of the TS Wakf Board has led to a rift between Deputy Chief Minister Mohd. Mahmood Ali and Syed Omar Jaleel, special secretary, minorities’ welfare department. Irked by the decision of the special secretary, the Deputy CM asked Mr Jaleel why Prof. Abdul Shukoor was made in-charge of the Board without he being consulted.

When contacted, Mr Jaleel admitted that Mr Mahmood Ali did enquire from him about the appointment of Prof. Abdul Shukoor. He told DC that he informed the Deputy CM that since Wakf Board CEO Mohd Asadullah has gone on long leave, arrangement had to be made to run the Board. Since no officer of the rank of deputy secretary was available in the minorities welfare department, Prof. Abdul Shukoor was given additional charge.

Meanwhile, Prof. Abdul Shukoor told DC that he was not willing to handle the responsibility. He said that he was already holding the offices of Urdu Academy and State Haj Committee and Centre for Education and Development of Minorities. Prof. Abdul Shukoor said that in view of commencement of the Haj-2016 season, it would be difficult for him to handle the affairs of the Wakf Board.

When asked about the disinterest shown by Prof. Abdul Shukoor, Mr Jaleel said that the Prof. has to take charge as the government has issued the order. Maintaining he has no knowledge about the political pressure on Mr Asadullah in going on long leave, Mr Jaleel said that the CEO had cited health grounds in his leave application.
