Bengaluru: In a major overhaul of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) administration, as many as 1,280 officials are likely to be transferred within BBMP in a week’s time.
The administrative committee of the BBMP is in the process of transferring officials, who have been serving in the same department for over three years and some as long as 11 years, BBMP sources said.
From officials serving as first division assistants to revenue inspectors and engineers have been found to stick to the same department like Revenue, Health and Engineering for as long as 11 years using their political connections.
BBMP sources said that as soon as the news of mass transfers broke out, a large number of officials stepped out of BBMP office and made a beeline to meet their respective political masters seeking intervention to secure other favourable postings and some even wanted to stay at the same department even after serving there for more than three years.
According to the government norms, a BBMP official should be transferred after he/she serves three years in a particular department, but due to deep-rooted corruption transfers did not happen at stipulated intervals. In some cases, officials evoked political pressure to stay at their posts.
In order to curb rampant corruption, especially in revenue, health and engineering departments, the list of officials who have been serving for more than three years to 11 years were made and submitted with the commissioner for transfer approval. The order is yet to be executed by the BBMP top brass.
“According to a circular from the government, only six per cent of transfers can be done at one go and if the authority follows that, then there will be transfers of only 300 to 400 officials this time,” said Rajanna, Administrative Committee Chairman to DC.
“However, the committee had submitted a list of 1280 officials including FDAs, RIs and engineers, who were overstaying in their departments, to the BBMP Commissioner awaiting further orders.
