Driving tests to be made tough; pass via new software

The new system from next month would have no scope for any influence from outside as the entire inspection system is becoming automatic

ANANTAPUR: Driving tests will soon become tough as a new automatic system is being introduced across the country and the state transport departments will be integrated and linked to the new NIC software.

RTA offices would effect a modification of the driving test tracks as per the new norms that are being introduced along with an automatic system for checking the driving capability of the applicants.

As of now, the issuing of permanent driving licence is under the control of Motor Vehicle Inspectors who often bend to pressures and maintain unholy links with the driving schools. The new system from next month would have no scope for any influence from outside as the entire inspection system is becoming automatic.

In view of the changes in the system along with the NIC software update, RTA offices have been repeatedly asking the candidates with LLR to apply for a permanent licence without waiting for an end to the validity period of the Learner Licence.

This can be done through SMS so as to clear all the pending LLRs. The alert was to avoid inconvenience to the LLR holders once the software is changed.

For instance, candidate Naga Varshini got her LLR valid up to September but the RTA alerted her via SMSs to apply for DL test as early as possible without waiting for an end to the LLR validity.

The applicant has to appear for a test at the office in his or her native place. The driving schools should have the test track as per norms and other proper facilities.

Anantapur deputy transport commissioner Shivarama Prasad said the Driving Test Track system was being modified.

An official said the new system would be tough on candidates with poor driving skills. “While attending a test, if the candidate is unable to drive well, the electronic systems along with CC cameras will automatically disqualify the candidate.
