Single-teacher school in Kadapa turns popular

Surprisingly, within one month of his appointment, word spread fast and the number of students in the primary school went up to 30

Kadapa: A single teacher, through his hard work and efficient teaching methods, has turned his school into a model for others in the Kadapa district to follow. So much so, some parents prefer sending their children to this school than the nearby private schools.

Three years ago, the number of students at the Pittikunta Mandal Parishat Primary School in Avadhuta Kashinayana mandal had been mere three. It was in the list of government schools earmarked for closure. Parents preferred sending their kids to private schools in nearby town of Porumamilla. But everything turned out totally different after Ganugapenta Ramanareddy was appointed as teacher at this school for all classes.

His teaching methods are unique, so much so kids studying from class 1 to 5 in this primary school pick up their lessons fast. Ramanareddy teaches English based on lesson from the internet. The other key subject – Mathematics, is taught in a manner that children grasp it easily. Surprisingly, within one month of his appointment, word spread fast and the number of students in the primary school went up to 30.

Six government employees have pulled out their children from private schools in Porumamilla and admitted them into the Pittikunta school. The school functioned even during times of Coronavirus, with students of one class being educated on a day. Ramanareddy himself bought sanitizers and masks for his students at his own expense.

The popularity of the school increased so much that the strength of students in the school went up to 105. As a result, state government appointed two more teachers to the school. Ramanareddy, from a single-school teacher, has now turned into a headmaster of the school.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Ramanareddy said currently, there is only one classroom. It would be great if additional rooms are sanctioned. Toilets though have already been sanctioned under the scheme Nadu-Nedu scheme being implemented by the government.

Ramanareddy pointed out that 10 students of the school have been selected for admission into the AP Model School. Some students have also written the National Science Talent Examination. But its results are awaited. He expressed confidence that some of them are quite likely to get scholarships.
