Anthoor municipality’s four staff suspended

The officials are mun-icipality secretary K.M. Gireesh, assistant engineer K. Kalesh and overseers T.A. Augustine and B.Sudheer.

Thiruvananthapuram: Four officials of Anthoor municipality were suspended pending inquiry over the suicide of NRK industrialist Sajan Parayil in Kannur.

The officials are municipality secretary K.M. Gireesh, assistant engineer K. Kalesh and overseers T.A. Augustine and B.Sudheer.

This was announced by LSG minister A.C. Moideen while speaking to reporters here on Thursday.

Mr Moideen, who termed the incident as an isolated one, said that the preliminary investigations found some lapses on the part of officials which resulted in denying the licence to the convention centre.

A departmental-level system will be introduced soon to clear files that are stuck in red-tape and to redress public grievances. A separate website will be introduced to submit complaints directly to the minister, he said.

Earlier, Kannur CPM district secretary M.V. Jayarajan had visited Sajan’s house to inform them about the probe updates. He announced that steps will be taken to grant licence for the convention centre. CPM leaders P.K. Sreemathy and P. Jayarajan also visited Sajan’s house and spoke to the family.

Mr Moidheen had earlier summoned Anthoor municipality officials to Thiruvananthapuram. He inspected the documents concerned in the presence of higher officials. He told the officials that their explanation was not satisfactory and that action will be taken against them.
