Chennai: State IT minister M. Manikandan had triggered a controversy when he met ‘Kokki’ Kumar in the Ramanathapuram general hospital on June 12 after the rowdy was arrested for disrupting public order and worse still assaulting a police officer on duty.
Sub-inspector M. Dinesh, 26, had confronted ‘Kokki’ allegedly creating nuisance and terrorising the women public near the lake bund. The rowdy was with two associates and they allegedly gave the SI a good thrashing. A police team from the local station rushed to save the SI and detain Kokki and his mate, while letting the third man go.
Police said ‘Kokki’ was taken to the hospital after he fell from his bike while trying to escape. Minister Manikandan called on his ‘friend’ Kokki Kumar a couple of days later.
