Kondapur reels under power outage
Hyderabad: Repeated power outage for long durations in Kondapur is troubling residents, especially techies who are unable to completely utilise the work-from-home option.
Due to the rapid expansion of the IT corridor, the existing feeders are said to be unable to cater to the needs of the growing area.
The Southern Discom had taken up bifurcation of feeders to double the capacity several months ago but work has been pending. This is leading to outages in Masee-dbanda, Sudershannagar, Maruthinagar, Prabhapada Township, Kalajyothi, Waddera Basthi, Gautami Society, JVG Hills, Madhava Hills and Sri Ram Nagar.
Techie Renu Johri, a resident of Maseedbanda, said, “Due to the power cuts that too for long durations, I cannot utilise the work-from-home option given by my company. The outage starts around 9 am and power is restored late in the evening. Our backup generator cannot work for so long.”
The bifurcation of feeders began at the beginning of the year. Several users reached out to the Southern Discom on Twitter raising concerns over the power cuts. Bikash Kumar posted: “Please declare Kondapur and Masjid Banda area as no electricity zone. Everyday unplanned outage. It is not the first time that this outage occurred (sic)”.
The officials had stopped works on the Sriramnagar feeder due to summer. As the weather is now better, the works have been resumed.
Southern Discom assistant enginner Sammaiah said, “The work will be completed in two days. Previously each feeder had a maximum capacity 200 amps and the demand had matched it. We bifurcated the feeders and now there are four of them with a capacity of 100 amps each.”
The said the power is cut to instal the feeder line. “With these bifurcations, there will be no problems for two to two and a half years.”
