BBMP to Karnataka HC: Pet rule being revisited

A pet owner will have to pay Rs 1,000 fine if they fail to get licence.

BENGALURU: The BBMP on Wednesday submitted to the High Court that it was revisiting the laws regarding pet licencing.

The Palike made the submission on the petition filed by Indira Gopal Krishna, challenging the notification regarding BBMP's by-laws concerning registration and licencing of pets.

The BBMP advocate submitted that they have received various requests from animal lovers and pet owners with regard to the matter. Meanwhile the Palike has sought time as the court seeks clear response from it by Thursday.

The petition filed stated that the new rule mandates the dog owners to get a licence consisting of a radio collar with an embedded chip. A pet owner will have to pay Rs 1,000 fine if they fail to get licence.

The petitioner also states that the new rule will promote auction of dogs and their exploitation by the illegal breeders, and further argued that it was arbitrary, lacks clarity and is in contravention of Section 3 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.

Rohini Sindhuri transfer case
The High Court has asked the state government to inform its stand on the matter pertaining to IAS officer Rohini Sindhuri challenging her transfer from Hassan as Deputy Commissioner. She had moved the court challenging Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) order, which had upheld the government order to transfer her from the post of Hassan Deputy Commissioner. The court has adjourned the case to June 25.
