Janthakal case: HD Kumaraswamy gets a breather

The court, however, has made it clear to the JD(S) leader that he should appear before the SIT, if summoned.

Bengaluru: The beleaguered JD(S) state president H.D. Kumarasway, who was expected to be picked up in the near future for questioning by the Special Investigation Team in the Janthakal mining scam, wriggled out of the situation with the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday extending its earlier order and directing the SIT not to arrest him till June 28. The former chief minister has been accused of putting pressure on IAS officer Ganga Ram Baderiya, to renew the mining lease of Janthakal Enterprises in violation of norms.

Special Public Prosecutor P. Govindan, arguing for the SIT, submitted that the custodial interrogation of Mr Kumaraswamy is necessary in the case. As he sought more time to submit the case diary and other documents, the court agreed, but directed the SIT not to arrest Mr Kumaraswamy till June 28. The court, however, has made it clear to the JD(S) leader that he should appear before the SIT, if summoned.
