BBMP gives nod, Carlton Towers to reopen after 7 years
BENGALURU: Seven years after the Carlton Tower fire tragedy, which had claimed nine lives, BBMP has granted occupancy certificate to the building.
The incident, which occurred on Feb. 23, 2010, had shocked many as three panic stricken people, to escape from the inferno, had jumped to death.
Uday Vijayan, who lost his 23-year-old son to the tragedy, said, “BBMP has granted occupancy certificate and the fire department has its NOC regarding the safety of the building.” His request to those entering the building, after it is thrown open for commercial operations, was to remember those nine lives lost for no fault of theirs.
Asked whether he will visit the building after it is opened, Uday, who is also the managing trustee of Beyond Carlton a fire safety advocacy group, maintained he has no such plan. “For me the building is filled with lot of emotions,” he said. The building and it is set to open by June end or early July.
