Tree cover being maintained: KT Rama Rao
Hyderabad: Minister K. T. Rama Rao expressed anger against those opposing felling and translocation of trees to pave way for strategic road development projects in the GHMC area, especially at KBR Park.
“Those opposing this move should also know that the state government is taking up planting of lakhs of trees. Instead of supporting the government, they are protesting. Protesters should rethink, the minister said.
For the second time he expressed dissatisfaction over the condition of roads and said the network was of very poor quality. “The whole tender system needs to be abolished. Contractors use sub-standard material to build roads.
Privatisation is the only solution. It has proved useful in Delhi and Kerala,” he said adding that the city would be divided into zones for maintenance.
Mr Rama Rao has asked all circle and zonal officers to inspect roads every day during the rains. De-watering arrangements should be made at all vulnerable water stagnation points, the water will be pumped out to the nearest nala.
The minister has directed all GHMC officers to begin their day’s work from 6 am. They need to inspect the roads, solid waste management, water logging points and manholes to avoid any inconvenience to the public.
Apart from this, 221 road junctions will have free lefts and U-turns, according to the Hyderabad Intelligent Transport System. The GHMC would begin levying tax on vacant private land and revise property tax rates. Following the 100-day action plan, the minister has asked officials to prepare separate action plans for six months and a full year.
