Kaleshwaram project far from complete says TD

The TS government is yet to get clearance from Maharashtra for land acquisition.

WARANGAL: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao's claims about the completion of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) are a ruse and there is still a lot to be done, said Telugu Desam state organising secretary Gattu Prasad Babu.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Mr Prasad Babu alleged that the state government is misleading the people regarding the progress of the project. Mr Prasad Babu said, “Even though Mr Rao had set the deadline to conduct the trial run of the project before June-end, it’s not that easy as certain issues are yet to be addressed.”

The TS government is yet to get clearance from Maharashtra for land acquisition. Power infrastructure to lift the water is yet to be set up and manpower for maintenance of the project is yet to be provided, Mr Prasad Babu added.

He said, “The government lacks a scientific approach to deal with the issues. It is only creating a buzz regarding the project to hoodwink the people.” He dared Mr Rao to resign from his post as CM if he failed to provide irrigation water from July. “The government is more interested in revising the cost of the project at regular intervals. It has failed to get funds from the Centre for the project.

The Central Water Commission is yet to come clear about the benefits of the project,” he added. He said, “The TD has plans to send a delegation to the project site to expose TRS government.
