Eluru: West Godavari SP M. Ravi Prakash warned of stern action against those who tried to foment violence and disrupt counting of votes on May 23 at Eluru in the district.
At a meeting with senior police officers to review security arrangements for the counting of votes, the SP stated that they were initiating all requisite measures to help conduct of counting of votes in a peaceful atmosphere without any breach to the maintenance of law and order in the district.
He added that as part of it, they bound over habitual offenders, rowdy sheeters and those who resorted to violence in last elections. He said that they were keeping close vigil on trouble mongers and instructed the police to act swiftly to resolve any minor disputes immediately.
Stressing on the three tier security arranged at the counting centres, the SP stated that parking arrangements have been made for vehicles of counting officials. Anything and everything that happens at the counting centres would be video-recorded. He asked police personnel to deal with the general public at counting centres with respect.
West Godavari SP called upon general public, political parties, intellectuals and other stakeholders to cooperate with the police to maintain law and order properly during counting of votes and said that as the counting of votes was arranged at C.R.R. Reddy Engineering College, Ramachandra Engineering College, Vishnu Engineering College, only counting agents would be permitted to enter the counting centres and added that mobile phones would not be allowed into the counting centres.
West Godavari covers two Parliamentary constituencies including Eluru and Narasapuram and 15 Assembly constituencies.
Earlier, at a separate programme, the SP offered cash award and certificates of appreciation to police personnel whformance in curbing cricket betting by raiding the places and nabbing the culprits and also those who successfully carried out investigation to nab the culprits in several cases.
