Bengaluru: Undertrial’s death caused by assault, says police probe
Bengaluru: In a twist to the death of an undertrial Fairoz (21) under mysterious circumstances at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, the postmortem report has revealed that he died following an assault on him inside the jail.
Fairoz, a hotelier and a resident of DJ Halli, was arrested by the DJ Halli police on January 9 on charges of drug peddling and was lodged at the Central Prison.
He was being treated for Hematoma at the hospital in the jail premises. As he worsened, he was shifted to Victoria Hospital on January 21 and died on January 23.
Fairoz's family alleged he died due to excesses in the jail, and alleged that jail officials were responsible for his death.
The family members had also said there were injury marks on his body when he was shifted to Victoria hospital.
The family members of Fairoz had moved court seeking justice, following an inquiry was ordered. The postmortem report established that he was assaulted.
Police began investigation and Parappana Agrahara police station Inspector Nandeesh H.L. questioned jail officials and staff.
There are also reports that other jail inmates may have assaulted him. The police are also probing that angle.
Fairoz's family members said D.J. Halli police had intercepted him while he was riding a bike to check vehicle documents. As he was not having documents, the police demanded money from him.
However, when he did not pay the money, the police fixed a false case against him, they added.
