Andhra Pradesh, Telangana declare holiday on May 23

The state government authorised collectors and election officers to declare local holiday on May 23, the day of counting for the 16th Lok Sabha polls.

Hyderabad/Vijayawada: The state governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana state on Monday declared a holiday on May 23 — the counting day.

The Telangana state government said the holiday was declared under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, for all government offices and educational institutions.

The Andhra Pradesh government issued a government order declaring a holiday on May 23, while the TS government have done it in advance.

The state government authorised collectors and election officers to declare local holiday on May 23, the day of counting for the 16th Lok Sabha polls.

The Andhra Pradesh state government too authorised all collectors and district election officers to declare a local holiday on May 23, the day of counting of votes, if necessary.

As per the government order RT 799, treasuries and sub-treasuries in the district will continue to function.

The general elections were held in seven phase began on April 11, 2019. The final phase of the elections ended on May 19. Exit Polls show NDA to return to government.
