Anantapur: Results may be late due to VVPAT counting, says election officer

Anantapur: In view of counting VVPAT slips, results may become late, even till May 23 midnight. But, trends can be known by afternoon, Collector and District Election Officer G.Veerapandian observed.

Micro observers shall play a key role during the counting process in both Assembly and Lok Sabha segments, Veerapandian said and added that the list of micro observers will be selected on a random basis and the list will be released a few minutes before the counting process.

Briefing over the meeting with the micro observers and other counting staff at JNTUA Auditorium here on Monday, Veerapandian said that the micro observers have to be keen on every table and round during counting.

Anantapur Lok Sabha and Assembly segments of Anantapur Urban, Singanamala, Tadipathri, Kalyanadurgam, Rayadurgam, Guntakal and Uravakonda will be counted at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Anantapur campus and Hindupur Lok Sabha, along with seven.

Assembly segments- Rapthadu, Penukonda, Madakasira, Dharmavaram, Kadiri, Hindupur and Puttaparthi at Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Anantapur. For every Assembly segment and Lok Sabha segment, 14 tables will be set up for counting, the Collector said.

Police beefed up security at Anantapur Headquarters as cadre from all parties will be at Anantapur during counting. The political parties of each segment has hired function halls and rooms in the lodges for the leaders and cadre.
