Tamil Nadu CM hails apex court decision on Cauvery issue

CM said it is clearly mentioned in the order that CMB has power to release water in the river.

Chennai: Welcoming the Supreme Court on Cauvery water dispute, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami has stated that it is a historic verdict. Speaking to reporters at Madurai airport, on Sunday, he said the Apex Court order is very clear in alloting power to Cauvery Water Management Board, which has power to order release of water to Tamil Nadu. Hence, there is no need to convene all part meeting as the dispute has been resolved.

CM said it is clearly mentioned in the order that CMB has power to release water in the river. It only reduced Tamil Nadu’s share of 14.75 tmc ft of water from award of Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.The CMB has been accorded with required rights and verdict of court is final. The AIADMK government waged legal battle for 32 years and rights of state has been recognised.

Farmers and people have also welcome the Apex court verdict. However, a few political party leaders speak against the verdict. They should read the order, he added. Among others Minister for Co-operation Sellur K. Raju and Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management R.B. Udhayakumar were present on the occasion. CM was returning to Chennai from Kodaikanal.
