Karnataka: Anurag Tiwari found scam in Anna Bhagya scheme, says BS Yeddyurappa

Brother of the officer wrote a letter to the Prime Minister's Office demanding a CBI enquiry into his sibling's death.

Bengaluru: Claiming that the former Commissioner of food and civil supplies, Anurag Tiwari, who was found dead in Lucknow in suspicious circumstances recently, had written to the minister concerned about irregularities in procurement of rice for the Anna Bhagya scheme, BJP state chief, B.S.Yeddyurappa on Saturday demanded a CBI inquiry into the populist scheme that provides rice at Re 1 a kg to below poverty line families.

Speaking to reporters, he said the BJP had from the very start called for an inquiry into the irregularities in the running of the Anna Bhagya scheme, which, he claimed were costing the exchequer Rs 2000 crore. “There is a strong link between the irregularities in the food and civil supplies department and the death of Tiwari,” he charged.

Pointing that Mr. Tiwari’s family too had called for a CBI inquiry into his death, he revealed that party general secretary, Shobha Karandlaje, had written to the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister asking for a proper investigation into it as well. “I will also write to the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minster to order an inquiry into the officer Tiwari’s death,” Mr. B.S. Yeddyurappa added.

In his letter, Mayank said his brother, was an honest officer and wanted to work for the betterment of the society. "A few days back, Anurag had told me that he had tumbled upon a major scam in the Food and Civil Supplies department of Karnataka, which he wanted to inform the PMO and CBI," Mayank said in the letter.
