Birthday boy falls to death from penthouse terrace
Hyderabad: A get-together of five friends turned tragic when a youth fell to his death from a penthouse at Saidabad in the wee hours of Saturday. The victim, A. Gautam Nag, 26, and his friends were partying when the incident happened.
Saidabad police suspects that the youths were drunk and their carelessness might have led to the tragedy. Gautam, who fell from the top of a four-storey building in Singareni Colony, suffered serious injuries and was brought dead to a hospital.
Gautam, who was a construction contractor, slipped and fell when he was sitting on the railing.
“According to his friends, Gautam was sitting on the terrace railing probably intoxicated. He slipped and fell to the ground,” said a police official from Saidabad.
Though his friends and relatives rushed him to a corporate hospital the doctors declared him brought dead.
Gautam’s relatives said he had met his friends, Dikshit Reddy, Jeevan, Srinivas and Sujith after a long time. “They were old friends. On Saturday night they met at a friend’s wedding in Musheerabad. They decided to have a get-together and threw a party at the penthouse,” said one of his relatives.
“The penthouse is owned by Gautam's father. His family also lives in a flat in the same building,” he added.
Saidabad police said the incident occurred at around 2.30 am.
“They probably were drinking in the penthouse. Though they had moved all the bottles from there by the time we arrived we have a strong suspicion that they were all drunk,” said Saidabad inspector K. Sattaiah.
After the police was called in all the friends of Goutam were grilled by them.
“After a preliminary inquiry we concluded that it was an accident. There were no signs of a scuffle at the scene. Gautam must have been careless while sitting on the railing,” said the inspector.
Police sent Gautam's body to Osmania General Hospital for autopsy. A case was registered under CrPc Section 176 (suspicious death) and investigation is on.
