Telangana and Andhra Pradesh team summits Mount Everest
Hyderabad: A ten-member-team from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states summitted Mount Everest on Friday. Adilabad district additional SP G.R. Radhika and a few IPS and IFS officials were among the team members.
The team led by principal B. Shekar Babu of the Rock Climbing School at Bhuvanagiri, Nalgonda district, started on April 5 from Hyderabad and reached Lhasa in China from Kathmandu on April 13.
After staying at Lhasa for three days, the team drove to Gyanste, reaching there the next day. The team reached Tingri on April 19 and went for an acclimatisation hike up to 5,200 metres for getting used to low oxygen conditions in cold weather.
The team reached the north base camp the next day and the advance base camp on April 27, It reached Camp-1 on May 3 when bad weather hit them. They descended 300 metres.
On May 17, the team reached Camp-1 and Camp-2 the next day. At about 7.45 am on Friday, the team reached summit of the 8,848-metre high mountain.
Mr Shekar Babu told the media that the team would reach base camp by Saturday. This was the third team to summit Everest after the mountain was shut down following last year’s quake in Nepal.
