More than half of new MLAs are graduates

There are 127 candidates who have got the minimum UG degree.

Chennai: More than 50 per cent of the newly elected MLAs are graduates and post graduates, according to statistics released by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).

There are 127 candidates who have got the minimum UG degree. This new Assembly will also have five Ph.D.scholars as its members. Expectedly, the AIADMK party has the maximum number of graduates with 71 members having UG degree. Of the 89 DMK members, 51 are graduates and Congress party’s five members also figure in the list.

Interestingly, 50 new members are post graduates. The graduates are 40. There are 32 members who hold professional degrees like BL and MBBS.

Govi.Chezhian, Palanivel Thiagarajan and K.Ponmudy of DMK possess doctorate degrees. Among AIADMK members, R.Nataraj and Pollachi Jayaraman are Ph.D. scholars. Seventy-five members have criminal cases against them. Among them, 42 members have serious criminal cases against them.
