TS Innovation Cell promotes grassroots innovation with T-Innovation Mahostavam

Hyderabad: To take innovation to the grassroots, the TS Innovation Cell (TSIC) hosted 'T-Innovation Mahostavam' to celebrate World Creativity and Innovation Day with the theme ‘Step out and innovate’ on Friday. As a part of this initiative, TSIC conducted an ‘Hour for Innovation’ across gram panchayats with support from panchayat raj department and in colleges in association with other partners.

The programme was aimed at bringing out creativity in the people and channelise it towards innovation, which will solve their problems.

Jayesh Ranjan, principal secretary, IT, said that TSIC came up with the mechanism to make the people part of the innovation ecosystem. " Telangana has achieved many milestones regarding innovation in the initial years and is focusing on encouraging problem solvers and innovators," he said.

Dr Shanta Thoutam, chief innovation officer, said, the initiative was meant to kindle the latent creativity present in the people at the grassroots and develop innovative solutions. Also, people should be educated about the progressive innovation ecosystem of the state.

“Many innovators have been scouted from the grassroots through our flagship programmes and they have come up with frugal solutions addressing the grassroot challenges,” Dr Thoutam said.

The other aim of the programme was to increase the awareness of people at the grassroots on using problem solving and design thinking to address the issues they face in their daily life and how they can come up with solutions by using frugal innovation.

As part of the T-innovation mahostavam, TSIC personnel visited villages in the state and conducted the programme where people were firstly sensitised about the importance of innovation and innovators who broke the stereotypes to find solutions for local problems.

Later, the villagers are given an opportunity to identify problem statements. Next, they are enabled to come up with solutions on the spot and in case there is any existing solution of a pertinent problem, the TSIC team took note of it.
