Hyderabad:The High Court, with its pink and white granite building and imposing domes, celebrated its centenary year on the pleasant midsummer Saturday evening.

The three Supreme Court judges, who first practised here, attended the function and assured that they will support the Telangana High Court in filling up vacancies and to increase its strength from 24 to 42. Advocates and the legal fraternity wanted a Supreme Court bench for the southern states here.

Justice N.V. Ramana said judges would be appointed to fill the vacant posts very soon. He also said that he had asked Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi to increase the sanctioned strength in both High Courts. Justice Ramana, in line to  become the Chief Justice, expressed his disgust towards the critics of the judicial system. He stated that although there are a few people who were trying to dominate the judiciary, there was no threat to the institution.

Justice R. Subash Reddy said they will do their best to increase the sanctioned strength of judges and appealed to the judges for speedy disposal of cases. Justice L. Nageswara Rao of the Supreme Court recalled serving in the High Court building as a lawyer. Telangana HC Acting Chief Justice Ragha-vendra Singh Chauhan said that they faced 1.93 lakh pending cases.
