Kozhikode: Yellow alert in 2 districts

Foreseeing landslides and flooding in these areas, the department here has asked disaster management officials to remain on alert.

Kozhikode: Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur in several districts of Kerala on Sunday, according to the India Meteorological Department. A yellow alert has been issued in Palakkad and Malappuram Districts while rainfall and also chances for landslides have been predicted at Kozhikode, Wayanad, Malappuram,Thrissur and Palakkad.

Foreseeing landslid-es and flooding in the-se areas, the department here has asked disaster management officials to remain on alert. Directives have also been issued to open round-the-clock control rooms at all taluks in the hilly areas. The IMD also said that buildings which can serve as relief camps need to be arranged with necessary facilities.

Some of the warnings given by IMD include - families residing near to river sides have been directed to stay away for sometime as chances for water level to increase are high, avoid parking vehicles under trees, don’t permit children to play in any water bodies without the presence of elders, chances for thunder and lightning are high, and also children should try to avoid playing in barren areas between 2 pm to 5 pm.
