DGP planning defamation case against KPCC chief

The complaint given to Alathur DySP was handed over to Tirur DySP for investigation.

Thiruvananthpuram: DGP Loknath Behera has sought the government’s permission to file a defamation case against KPCC president Mullapally Ramachandran over his statement that the DGP was acting like the branch secretary of the CPM.

The Congress was provoked by the police failure to register a case against LDF convener A. Vijayar-aghavan on the complaint of Ms Ramya Haridas, UDF candidate of Alathur, for insulting her at a public venue.

The DGP decided not to take any action against Mr Vijayaraghavan after seeking legal advice on the complaint that he had verbally abused Ms Ramya during the election campaign. The complaint given to Alathur DySP was handed over to Tirur DySP for investigation. The chief electoral officer had also warned Mr Vijayaraghavan.

The Congress was also offended by the DGP’s decision to seek legal opinion on the complaint filed by Mr M.K. Raghavan, UDF candidate in Kozhikode, on the sting operation video. The director-general of prosecution gave his opinion on the matter on Saturday. Opposition Lead-er Ramesh Chennithala said a complaint will be lodged with the election commission against the police stand on the Vija-yaraghavan issue. He said that the ruling front was targeting Mr Raghavan for political gains and added that Ms Ramya had the full support of the party.
