Upgradation of Arakkonam railway yard in process
Chennai: The Arakkonam railway yard will undergo upgradation and modification involving extension of platforms, creation of an island platform and extension of receipt and dispatch line from April 21, 2018. The engineering work will affect train services for around 17 days causing delay, cancellation and regularization of train services.
The expansion of the Arakkonam yard costing around Rs 35 crore will help to increase the strength and capacity of the yard, increasing the speed restriction inside the yard from 30 to 105 kmph.
“This will help keep up the punctuality of train services. The single receipt and dispatch line are planned to be increased to four, further increasing the capacity of the yard,” said Naveen Gulati, divisional railway manager on Friday.
Arakkonam is to get two new platforms of 26-coach length, while the two platforms at the station will be extended to 24-coach length. An island platform of 26-coach length will also be constructed at the station. Various changes have been made in the train service patterns of suburban and express trains, and regularization will be updated every two days.
