Bengaluru: As the heat and humidity was beginning to take its toll on the public, sudden showers gave Bengalureans the much needed relief on Friday evening. City meteorological department official said that these are pre-monsoon showers triggered by thunder activities and winds coming from neighbouring states.
"These are scattered and isolated showers and the city might receive light rainfall for the next two days. Pre-monsoon showers can be connected to the wind discontinuity which can be seen from Andhra Pradesh to Tamil Nadu and southern parts of Karnataka. There are chances of light rains across the city in the next 24 hours or more," he said.
Whitefield, Mahadevapura, Ramamurthy Nagar, Banaswadi, Indiranagar, Koramangala, Ulsoor, V.V. Puram, Yelahanka, Uttarahalli, Rajajinagar, Bannerghatta and surrounding areas received rains.
Water logging was witnessed on a few roads, including on stretches near Eco Space, Bellandur and Mayo Hall. Similarly, 13th Main in Indiranagar too was water logged, and the residents said that it is a warning for the BBMP to wake up from its slumber and clean the drains before the actual monsoon arrives.
Sonal Singh, a resident of 13th Main, said, "It was a nice feeling to receive rains, but when I stepped out of the house I noticed water on the road. There are no proper outlets for water to flow, as they are blocked with debris, which needs to be cleaned."
She said, "In a couple of months, the monsoon will set in and the BBMP should clean all shoulder drains and storm water drains now. If not, we will sure witness year's situation."
The sudden downpour resulted in power cuts across the city on Friday afternoon. According to Bescom official, 2,078 complaints have been received in the city while 1,447 complaints have been resolved, the rest are being attended.
