Telangana's School Fee Regulation Act likely to be delayed
Hyderabad: The Telangana state government's School Fee Regulation Act is likely to be delayed.
The government has asked the state committee to tour Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Punjab, who made rules to regulate school fees and study how effective it could control fees in schools.
The government has also asked the committee to make recommendations for formulating an effective law in Telangana based on feedback gathered during the study tour. The TS Act is likely to come into force only from the academic year 2018-19.
The committee headed by retired OU vice chancellor Prof. T. Tirupathi Rao was expected to submit its report by April 20 to the government. However, it has been put on hold indefinitely with the government asking the committee to visit other states. Parents associations cried foul over the government’s directions on study tour. They asked where is the need to visit other states when rules are available online. “This shows the government is not sincere in regulating fees. It wants to allow private schools to fleece parents. We suspect that schools are exerting pressure,” said N. Subrahmanyam, the convenor of the Hyderabad Schools Parents' Association.
