M Thambidurai calls on Ch Vidyasagar Rao and Edappadi K. Palanisami

His meeting with the Governor, which was described as “courtesy callâ€lasted half-an-hour on Thursday.

CHENNAI: On a day marked by hectic political development, senior AIADMK leader and Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M. Thambidurai called on Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao. His meeting with the Governor, which was described as “courtesy call” lasted half-an-hour on Thursday. Though it was not known what had transpired during the meeting, Mr. Thambidurai later said, “no politics was discussed” with the Governor.

The meeting assumes significance as it comes in the backdrop of changing dynamics in the ruling AIADMK as the members in the V. K. Sasikala faction had revolted against their leader T. T. V. Dhinakaran, and decided to hold merger talks with the group led by former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, after deciding to keep the Sasikala family away from the party.

Immediately thereafter, Mr Thambidurai drove straight to the Secretariat and called on Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palanisami. Later, emerging after a meeting with him, Finance Minister D. Jayakumar said he had discussed with Mr. Thambidurai about the posting of vice chancellor for the fisheries university. Surprisingly, Health Minister Dr. C. Vijayabaskar, on whose premises IT officials had raided recently, too, called on Mr. Palanisami and said the discussion revolved around NEET.
