CHENNAI: Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin on Thursday alleged that the BJP government is resorting to ‘selective action’ on AIADMK leaders and questioned the lack of follow up action on I-T raids. Based on the confession of a habitual offender, a case was registered against AIADMK deputy general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran charging him with trying to bribe the Election Commission. But, no case had been filed after a list was obtained by the income tax department which claimed that information about the ministers distributing Rs 89 crore to voters in the RK Nagar bypoll had been found. “Is a document unearthed by the I-T department not strong enough as a confession of a habitual offender to register an FIR?” Stalin asked.
Coming out with a series of questions, the DMK working president asked “Who is providing assurances that if one corrupt person is evicted, the corrupt activities of others will be covered up? Who is trying to use the income tax department and CBI for their selfish gains? Who is giving assurances for the corrupt leaders of the AIADMK factions?” He urged the Union government to initiate transparent action on the ministers belonging to both the factions based on the I-T raids and the evidences. The Union government should allow the I-T and ED to function independently to bring to light the corruption of all the AIADMK ministers. He also came down heavily on the move to merge the two factions of AIADMK and described it as a conspiracy to unite the ‘corrupt empire’ to further plunder the state’s exchequer.
Referring to the raids in the house of health minister C. Vijayabaskar, he said there were reports that Rs 89 crore was distributed to the voters. But, there is no answer to the questions related to the raids and the investigation is also not moving in the direction. 6. Stalin also charged that former Panneerselvam who is indulging in a ‘Dharma Yudham’ handed over the job of exploiting the state’s natural resources to Shekar Reddy.
While, Shekhar Reddy had been jailed and interrogated again and again the investigation is not moving to Panneerselvam. He asked if the I-T and ED had been stopped from moving the investigation towards Panneerselvam. No action had followed the raids on ‘Karur’ Anbunathan, former minister ‘Natham’ R. Viswanathan, former chief secretary Rama Mohana Rao and former Mayor ‘Saidai’ S. Duraisamy.
