Tamil Nadu power demand crosses 15,000 mw
Chennai: The power demand in the state on Wednesday crossed 15,000 mega watt mark for the first time with soaring temperatures. On Wednesday, the state recorded an all-time high peak demand of 15,925 mw at 6.50 pm with ever increasing domestic, commercial and industrial consumption fuelled by rising summer temperature.
The previous highest power consumption in the state was recorded on April 15, when it had touched 14,969 mw. The Tangedco was able to meet the record peak demand without imposing loading shedding thanks to improved power position in the state.
The state’s daily energy consumption has also touched an all time high of 336.489 million units on April 19 bettering previous record of 334 MU on April 13.
The state has been witnessing “phenomenal” increase in power demand this year after the Tangedco lifted all the restriction measures imposed on high tension industrial and commercial consumers. The peak demand crossed 14,000-mw mark on February 19 this year and it touched in 14,500 mw mark days later on February 24.
