VK Sasikala gets 15 day parole for husband's funeral

She is now serving a four-year term in the disproportionate assets case.

BENGALURU: Jailed AIADMK leader V.K. Sasikala, lodged at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in a disproportionate assets case, was granted 15 days emergency parole on Tuesday to attend her husband's funeral at Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu.

Sasikala's husband M. Natarajan, who was being treated at Gleneagles Global Health City, Chennai, died of multiple organ failure around 1.30 am on Tuesday. The parole application was filed by Sasikala's advocate immediately after she learnt about her husband's demise.

The parole was sanctioned by prison authorities on Tuesday morning and Sasikala left the prison around 1.30 pm. She travelled to Thanjavur by road, where Natarajan's last rites will be held. The 15-day parole also includes two days of travelling to and from Thanjavur, a senior prison official said.

As per parole condition, Sasikala cannot visit the hospital where her husband was admitted, should stay at the residence as mentioned in her application, cannot entertain any visitors at her residence, cannot involve herself in political or any other public activities, cannot take part in party activities and cannot interact with the media.

Sasikala was last granted parole for six days in October last year after Natarajan's double transplant. Then too, she had applied for a 15-day parole but her request was rejected on a technicality. She is now serving a four-year term in the disproportionate assets case.
