Kadapa police detains two smugglers under PD Act
ANANTAPUR: Kadapa police detained an International smuggler and another interstate smuggler under PD Act at Kadapa on Tuesday. SP Babuji Adda said Ahmed Tambi Maideen alias ATM of Nagur in Nagapattinam district and presently residing at Egmor in Chennai involved in red sanders smuggling activities for the past two decades.
In 1987, Maideen migrated to Andaman Iceland as a server at a five star hotel. He had close contacts with a couple involved in exports and imports. Maideen returned India in 1990 and started exports and imports. He had contacts with Mayanmar based red sanders smuggler who was doing smuggling activities from Redhills area in Chennai.
Maideen earned Rs,hundreds of crores through smuggling of red sander logs to Dubai, Singapoor, Hongkong, MAlasia, Nepal, Bhutan and China. He smuggled more than 3600 tonnes of red sander logs from Seshachalam forest in two decades and a total of 60 cases were registered against him in Kadapa district.
Another interstate smuggler S.Srinivasulu, a native of Ramakrishnapuram in Renigunta mandal in Chittor district was involved in smuggling activities for the past two years.
He was close aide of International smuggler Jangala Shivashankar. About 14 cases were pending against the smuggler in Kadapa district alone, SP said. Two due were detained under PD Act. The district collector T.Baburao Naidu issued orders , SP said.
