God, people behind me, not BJP: Rajinikanth
Chennai: Back from his Himalayan sojourn, Rajinikanth made a dramatic announcement about his political leanings. He categorically said the BJP was not behind him. "People keep saying the BJP is behind me. That is not true, Only God and the people are behind me," the actor and to-be politician told the media outside his Poes Garden home Tuesday.
Quizzed about the Ram rajya rath yatra entering Tamil Nadu amid protests by the opposition, the Superstar struck a note of caution, saying any kind of communal tension should be prevented. He added that it is the responsibility of the secular state of Tamil Nadu to provide security to the yatra.
The differences between Rajini and Kamal Haasan on political issues were stressed even more in their diametrically opposite views on the yatra. He slammed the procession as having a "divisive political agenda". "Voices for social harmony being throttled with (Section) 144 and arrests," the chief of MNM wrote on Twitter. "Procession with divisive political agenda allowed with protection. TN government, dancing to someone else's tune, is neither reflecting people's opinion nor being empathetic to students writing their board exams," his tweet read.
