DMK demands action against AIADMK MP for disrespecting' Chair

Action should be taken against the member and see that Chair is not disrespected,' Elangovan said.

Chennai: Political rivalry between two major Tamil Nadu parties came to fore in the Rajya Sabha as DMK members sought action against an AIADMK member for allegedly disrespecting the Chair.

As the Zero Hour was nearing the end, T K S Elangovan (DMK) alleged that during the discussion on the budget yesterday, "the leader of AIADMK" in the House had disrespected the Chair and sought action against him.

"Action should be taken against the member and see that Chair is not disrespected," he said without naming the member. As he was speaking, AIADMK members protested.

Elangovan said there was commotion and altercation at that time when the AIADMK member had said he "will not oblige the Chair".

His party colleague Tiruchi Siva, who was presiding the session yesterday at that time, said he had just asked the AIADMK member how much more time he would take to complete his speech.

Siva said the AIADMK MP had already spoken for about 20 minutes and two more members from his party were yet to speak with only 12-13 minutes left out of total time alloted to the AIADMK.

"How much more time you want? That's all I asked. He said the Chair cannot intervene. I said don't caste aspersions on the Chair and this is most unbecoming," the DMK member said and urged the Chair to go through the records.

Deputy Chairman P J Kurien reserved his observation on the issue, saying first he would go through the record and video.

"After going through the video, I will come back to the House with my observation," he said.
