Tourism Malaysia to launch campaign in India this year

India currently ranks sixth in the total tourist arrivals to Malaysia and during 2015.

Chennai: Affected by the mishaps to two Malaysia Airlines flights in 2015 and the number of tourists from India declining to 7.22 lakh, Tourism Malaysia has set its eyes to attract 10 lakh tourists from India this calendar year. It will launch a 360-degree campaign in April in Tamil Nadu and other parts of India to attract more tourists from the country.

India currently ranks sixth in the total tourist arrivals to Malaysia and during 2015, the country saw a 7.7 per cent decrease in arrivals from India. According to Daljit Singh, Indian community relations advisor to the Ministry of Tourism and Culture of Malaysia, Tourism Malaysia wants to encourage more tour operators to develop holiday packages with special focus on niche products like premium shopping, luxury travels and sports tourism such as golf.

Singapore, China and India are the top three countries from Asia in terms of travellers to Malaysia. According to sources, Tourism Malaysia plans to explore opportunities with satellite television channels and radio stations to reach as many households as possible in Tamil Nadu.

“We will look at popular local and regional television channels and radio stations in select cities for the campaign. Even in the case of print, we will be looking at publications that are favoured by readers,” says, MTPB director Noor Azman Bin Samsud.

The campaign of Tourism Malaysia would include print, digital, outdoor, television and radio. For the present, creatives and media buying will be handled by the MTPB headquarters in Malaysia.
