Prisons wing gets 1 more memo to relieve its DSP
Hyderabad: The TS home department has sent a second memo to the prisons department to relieve DSP P. Varun Reddy, who was deputed to Andhra Pradesh as part of staff allocation by the Kamalanathan Committee.
Responding to the first memo on February 26, prisons’ department officials requested the government to continue his services until the commencement of “All India Prisons’ Duty Meet” held from March 16 to 18 at the TS Police Academy.
As there was no response from the prisons’ authorities on the matter after the duty meet, principal home secretary Rajiv Trivedi sent another memo to prisons’ department, and asked to submit an action taken report to the government without further correspondence.
Prisons’ DG V.K. Singh had earlier told this newspaper that there was no significant reason behind not relieving the said DSP.
“The said DSP and another were trying for mutual transfer from AP to TS and TS to AP. I will take a clarification over the issue and will relieve the DSP this week,” he said.
At present, Mr Varun Reddy is working as vice-principal for State Institute for Correctional Administration.
Department has extra official
Although the prisons’ department is suffering from the lack of manpower, the number of existing DSPs is more than sanctioned.
A source told DC that the sanctioned number of DSPs in the department was 20 after TS was formed. “At present, 21 DSPs are working. As per rules, the government releases salaries for the sanctioned posts only. The salary of 21st DSP is being drawn from the state.”
