Plot demarcation starts for Metro Kakkanad stretch

The KMRL also expects an additional Rs 100 crore from realty development.

KOCHI: As the second round of the trial run of the Metro along the Muttom – Edappally stretch is to begin on Monday, the preparatory works for land acquisition for the Kakkanad line have started on Saturday. Demarcating of plots along both sides of the road from Jawaharlal Nehru stadium Kaloor up to Infopark will be completed soon.

The land along the 11.2 kilometres will be demarcated and the survey numbers and other details will be handed over to the land acquisition wing. As per the detailed project report, the Kakkanad line will have high ridership with an expected rate of 1.26 passengers per day in 2021 and 1.98 lakh passengers in 2031.

The project requires 35.03 square metres of land of which most of the plots are along the narrow and heavily encroached Palarivattom – Kakkanad Road. Of the total project investment, the state government will provide Rs 300 crore apart from Rs 141 crore for land acquisition. The union government’s share will be Rs 300 crore while the loan component is Rs 841 crore. The KMRL also expects an additional Rs 100 crore from realty development.

As per the present alignment, Metro Kakkanad line will pass through Palarivattom, Vazhakkala, Padamugal, pump junction, Sea Port Airport Road to reach Infopark at Chittethukara. The new line will have 12 metro stations – Kaloor stadium, Palarivattom Junction, Palarivattom Bypass, Chembumukku, Vazhakkala, Kunnumpuram, Kakkanad junction, SEZ, Chittethukara, Rajagiri and Infopark I and Infopark II. Meanwhile, plots required for the 1.7 km Tripu-nit-hura extension from Petta have already been demarcated.
